Generally speaking, Triple 777 slots are of great popularity these days. Pursuit of this feature began as an experiment with the Prototype Walker, and was later refined over the course of multiple subsequent ship releases, including the Mirror Universe Engle, Shran and M’Chla Pilot Starships, T’Pau Scout Ship, and Styx Terran Dreadnought, among others. With so many successfully-released starships now available to players, this experiment has solidified into a feature we are excited to pursue for all existing Tier 6 Starships, as well as all new ones going forward. We’ve seen a great deal of excitement and appreciation from players over removing the level restrictions on the aforementioned ships, along with the scaling mechanics represented in those ships. The impact these prototypes have had on the game has been overall positive from our perspective as developers, as well.

Removing level restrictions on so many premium starships allows us to eliminate a barrier that was keeping many players from immediately being able to fly and appreciate the ships they had won or purchased, whether that was from the C-Store, a Lock Box, or from the Exchange. And by replacing the “standard issue” equipment with gear that scales along with you, we are removing some of the further pain points of using these scaling ships as you level up, as any gear you haven’t been able to upgrade with drops or mission rewards, will at least stay level-appropriate.

So, what – exactly – does this mean for you?

1. All Tier 6 Starships may now be flown by characters at any level, provided they have completed the Tutorial Experience for their chosen starting faction.

What the “Tutorial Experience” encompasses is different per starting faction, and encompasses the completion of all Missions up to and including the following:

• 2409 Federation = “Welcome to Earth Spacedock”
• TOS Federation = “Explore Earth Spacedock”
• DSC Federation = “Reporting In”
• Klingon = “First City”
• Romulan = “Explore the Flotilla”
• Dominion = “Turn the Tide”

2. Level restrictions on the starships and associated reward packs have been removed.

This change allows for characters to immediately commission ships obtained from Lock Boxes, Promos, Events, and other non-C-Store sources.

3. Tier 6 Starships flown at lower levels have reduced stats and capabilities compared to their full potential, approximately matching other ships of the same level, and will grow with you as you level up.

Precisely what this means to different aspects of your ship depends on what its stats and slots look like when you are at level 50+. A full layout of these specifics will be included at the end of this blog. Here is a brief list of the aspects of a ship that will scale as you level up:

• Hull Capacity
• Shield Capacity
• Number of Fore/Aft Weapon Slots
• Number of Engineering/Science/Tactical Console Slots

4. All starting equipment ('Standard Issue') that comes pre-equipped on Tier 6 Starships has been changed into scaling versions of those items, usable at any level.

(Note: These changes also occurred on many non-T6 ships, if they shared equipment with a T6 starship. This is intentional.)

By changing all of this starter equipment into scaling versions, we are able to ensure that the equipment your starships start with will be usable at any level. It can also now be relied on to keep you “up to speed” as you gain levels, even if you end up unable to replace this equipment with better drops or mission rewards along the way.

5. Faction-based restrictions on Tier 6 Starships have not been altered as a result of this update.

Although this change removes many restrictions from a huge number of starships, any faction-based restrictions already in place are not being altered with this change.

As an example, this means that a Romulan will not be able to fly a Federation or Klingon starship until they’ve leveled up enough to have chosen to ally with the faction of their choice, even though they may have met the requirement of completing their faction’s “Tutorial Experience.”

These changes impacts a huge number of starships – more than 400 – each unique in their own right. Managing to retrofit so many existing ships in this way was an endeavor we’ve been hoping to accomplish for some time now, and we’re very excited to see the fruits of those labors.

On each of the following charts, a level indicator of “0” means that the ship will always have the referenced inventory slot, regardless of the level of its captain.

These unlock levels apply to Engineering, Science, and Tactical console slots exactly the same, depending on how many of each individual type your ship is designed to have when it is done scaling up.

Base Hull Capacity

To calculate your ship’s Hull Capacity, apply the listed Hull Modifier to the following values. The resulting values may later be increased with skills and equipment that increase maximum hull.

Example: The Styx Terran Dreadnought Cruiser has a listed Hull Modifier of 1.45, making its Base Hull Capacity (45k*1.45) = 65,250 at level 65.

Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as listing this on a table, as the final value of your Shield Capacity also depends upon the level/Mark of the shield item equipped to your ship. You’ll just have to trust us that it scales correctly!

We’d love for you to check it out and offer early feedback, but be forewarned that ships purchased on the Zen Store on Holodeck may not carry over their unlock data to the test server.

In the Free-to-Play model, players have the option to purchase services, items and content to customize their gameplay. These purchases expand upon an already complete experience and allow you to further customize your characters and enjoy the game in new ways. You can access this new material in the C-Store and use ZEN to make your purchases.

The C-Store is an in-game virtual goods shop from which you can purchase items to enhance your Star Trek Online experience. For example, you can buy Retrain Tokens (which allow you to reorganize your character advancement choices), new costume pieces, Captain Rename tokens, premium ships, and much more! You can view a catalog of items currently available for purchase inside the Star Trek Online game. To access the C-Store in-game, simply click on the inverted triangle in the lower right-hand corner of your mini-map interface. Then select 'Visit the C-Store' to begin browsing.

ZEN is the currency you use to purchase goods and services from the C-Store. You can purchase ZEN online via one of several payment methods. You do not need to purchase ZEN to play Star Trek Online.

Dilithium replaces the old 'Marks' and 'Emblems' of Star Trek Online. Your current Marks, Badges, and Emblems will be converted into this new single currency. All standard ships that previously cost energy credits will now cost Dilithium. In-game stores which currently take Marks and Emblems will now take Dilithium as well. Instead of receiving free ship tokens, players will now receive Dilithium through natural play which can be used to purchase ships and gear. Ships purchased with Dilithium will be character unlocks, while ships which are purchased using ZEN will be account unlocks, similar to the way things unlock with energy credits, marks or emblems today.

Absolutely. We offer an entirely optional subscription for players who prefer it. Players who are currently subscribed will remain subscribed until they choose to unsubscribe. We call all subscribers Gold Members. All Gold Members receive special access to content and services that may not be freely available for Silver Players. Silver Players are the Star Trek Online players who have opted to play the game without subscribing. They have full access to the game, but prefer the free-to-play model. Gold Members are players who have elected to subscribe or continue subscribing to Star Trek Online. The Features Matrix describes these differences in more detail.

If you choose to subscribe or continue subscribing to Star Trek Online, you automatically become a Gold Member. If you're a Lifetime Subscriber, you're also considered a Gold Member. If you are not a Gold Member but would like to become one, you may subscribe via your account management pages on this official website.

Regular subscribers become Gold Members automatically. Subscribers are charged a regular fee based on one of the several subscription options they have chosen. Lifetime subscribers, also Gold Members, are those players who have opted to pay a single one-time fee for Gold Membership. If you stop subscribing, you become a Silver Player. Not all of the features that characters on a Gold account have may be available to Silver Players. Lifetime subscribers also become Gold Members automatically and will not be charged a continuing subscription fee. Basically, nothing changes for Lifetime subscribers: They continue to have complete access to the same content, items and episodes the way they always have.

Additionally, Gold Members and Silver Players differ in Star Trek Online. A player who previously subscribed to Star Trek Online and then returned to game as a Silver Player will not have the same exact features provided to Gold Members. Characters will remain when switching from Gold to Silver. However, not all features that character had during Gold membership may be available to Silver players. Please note that we never delete character data. If a Gold Member cancels his or her subscription and decides to restart it at a later date, all of that Member's characters and associated items will be intact.

Silver Player chat and e-mail is rate-limited (though you would likely never see the limit if you chat or e-mail normally). They cannot use broadcast chat and may only send private messages ('tells') to players who are their friends. These restrictions are in place to curtail spammers. Yes. We'll be reviewing the content and prices of goods on offer in the C-store. This includes prices for ships at all tiers. For now, we know that some previously purchasable playable species will soon be free (Ferengi, Rigelian, Pakled, Tellarite), and others (Liberated Borg, Joined Trill, Federation Klingons) will be earned through other means. If you have already unlocked access to any C-store items, including playable species, you will retain that access in the free-to-play transition.
